APISEC
Secure APIs for fintech companies

SECURITY

The API economy is booming across sectors and creates the opportunity for small players to have a big business impact despite limited resources. It also forces existing, possibly larger players to evolve. Online, web-based software services are therefore increasingly offered as an API.

Cybersecurity is an inherent requirement to be successful and must be considered from the start. The problem, however, is that the required knowledge is not consolidated and fragmented. An important problem for the evolution and adoption of an API economy is therefore the complexity of the required security technologies.

The overall goal of the APISEC project is to enable software vendors in the fintech sector to quickly and effectively use complex new technologies in API security as a fundamental lever for their success in the digital economy. The concrete goals of the APISEC project are to broaden the knowledge and to make the knowledge about advanced API security technologies applicable. In this way, the adoption and opening up of web APIs in the fintech sector in Flanders is accelerated.

LONG-TERM FOLLOW-UP

The knowledge that is created in this project and translated to the fintech market will result in a faster go-to-market of the participating companies. On the one hand, the project results will help overcome the technical hurdles of the fintech businesses and their customers in the context of providing and using APIs securely. On the other hand, APISEC's domain-specific demonstrators and trade-off analyses will contribute to a faster development of a complete and safe product. This early investment in cybersecurity will provide a strong competitive advantage in a fast-growing international market.
